The Veneration of Pizza: Screen Print
Because let's be honest, who hasn't worshiped a molten hot slice of cheese laden pizza before?
Living in New York has opened up my eyes (and pizza mind) to a deep-rooted and deeply cult-like world of pizza admiration. Naturally, there came a time where I felt a fervent inner yearning to express my newly enlightened devotion to this culinary delight. What a better way to do so, than with a 2 colour screen print posters and t-shirt for my fellow disciples?

It all started out with a lot of thumbnails sketches. By the end there was upwards of 6 pages of my sketchbook teeming with tiny pencil filled rectangles. This was the very last sketch I drew out, turned out to be the only one I ended up needing.
I wanted to express the religious attitude that most pizza lovers took on with regard to their favourite slice. Taking inspiration from religious icon paintings and occult mysticism, I threw in a little of my own anthropomorphic illustrative style to bring this design to the streets of Brooklyn.

From the work of Louis Fili to Gregorian monks and more contemporary street artists, I looked at a plethora of sources for just the right inspiration for the typography design of this project. It needed to reflect sanctity and devotion, whilst not taking away from the colloquialness of this intenseley personal subject matter.

A study of volume and shading details
The final result is something that I am extremely happy with. Not too flashy with an oversaturation of colours, not too complex or laden down with background imagery, this homage to the modern day pizza is just what pizza devotees around the world ordered.
